This particular magazine cover is one of my favourites. I particularly like The colour scheme that is on the cover as it is vibrant yet dull. It has a lot of colour within the reds and blue and then the grey/brown brings down the vibrancy. The picture is using direct mode of address which attracts the reader and also the way that Megan Fox is positioned and dressed attracts the reader as she looks quite sexual. The tone of the text is also quite sexual things such as 'one-on-one with the most wanted woman in hollywood' However the way she is positioned makes her look quite vunelrable, she looks scared. The connotations of this magazine cover suggest that everybody should already know the name of this magazine as Megan Fox's head is protruding over the masthead, she is postitoned in a way which allows her to be the centre of attention. The lead article is set in the centre of the page in a bold typeset and in a large
This is one of my favourite covers. Leonardio Dicarpio is the central image and I think this cover works well due to his positioning. The featured articles are using a vanishing point, which is a convention used in architectural drawings, similar to the background which is a birds eye view of buildings from the film 'Inception' which is the leading article. The puff in the bottom left corner is a convention used in many Empire magazines as it is a simple way to add more colour to add to the colour scheme and also to add another article in, without making it to wordy. The masthead of this cover works well, Leonardo protrudes in front of Empire and they can do that as the magazine is so known that they don't have to show all of their masthead and it also shows the importance of the character. The colour scheme on this cover conveys the darkness of the film. The flash adds more colour which helps out the magazine as without the hint of gold in the flash and the puff it would look dull. The colour gold connotes heroes and heroins. The highlighted areas behind the featured articles allow them to stand out more otherwise they would have just blended into the background.
I'm not too keen on this cover, and thats due to its simplicity. It has an excellent central image and masthead as they are extremely different to the usual Empire covers. I think that there needs to be leading articles and puffs. The masthead for this cover has been designed extremely well. The crumbling P works well as it connotes Hulk's ultimate destruction and power, again the fact that Empire is not all there is great as it shows you that it is that popular. The colour scheme for this is also very good as the green fits in with Hulk and the red connotes blood and death. The flash in the top left is one of the only thing that the Hulk is not protruding.
I think this magazine is one of Empire's best. The compositional techniques for this magazine is an extremely popular technique, the use of a geometric shape draws the reader in. The overall composition leaves you a lot of room to add featured articles, flashes and a variety of other things. The featured articles positioned on the ears of the magazine add an element of subconsciousness, they suggest an angel and a devil, the Prince of Persia being a the heroic angel and the mad hatter, the crazy and deranged devil. The bold type set of the main article looks familiar to a poster. Extremely advertised and in main focus. The highlighted puff in the bottom left corner is a very popular thing for Empire to do as they can add more featured articles.
