Target Audience

My target audience for my film is focused on young girls and boys. I wanted to create a romance movie as I really enjoyed the short film 'signs'. ( http://www.youtube.com/all_comments?v=uy0HNWto0UY )  I wanted to do as much research as possible on my target audience, so I browsed over some of the comments on the film which were all very positive and the majority of them referred back to their own relationships. So it made the audience think of what they have and how lucky they are to have the ones they love, which I particularly liked as it was obviously pulling at the heart strings of the viewers. I knew from the comments that I had read, that the age group varied from both the young and old. It clearly varied from 13 to 40 plus. My target audience  loves a romantic film and after reading lots of comments of short films I know that I have picked the right theme. I liked the idea of taking something so simple and making it into a film. I wanted to draw the audience in with the music and  characters. I didn’t really want much dialogue in the film as I know that it is quite effective in 'signs'.  There had been several comments on it and how it worked well with no dialogue.
The research I have done from various websites has taught me that the codes and conventions of any genre have three distinctive groups. Technical, symbolic and written/audio. Group one, technical consists of your camera techniques and a variety of shots. For example, close ups of your two main characters together. This could show the build up of their budding romance. It could also be a close up of their body structure, how they stand around one another and if they are holding hands etc. Group 2, Symbolic consists of your clothing, colours and props. A good setting needs good colours to represent their feelings and the feelings that you want to share with the audience. Group 3, Written/audio consists of the soundtrack and the actors/actresses voices. For example, if the girl is mumbling it could suggest she is shy and that she is nervous,  you can tell this without having to see the actress, you don't need to see the person, only hear them to understand their emotions and the music also does the same, happy jolly music suggests happiness and the same for misery, gloomy dark music represents a dark gloomy atmosphere. I also found from my research that the codes and conventions of a romance film say that things like wedding bells, hearts, flowers, roses and presents should be shown throughout the film and be the main props, I wanted to challenge that by using Post It notes. They are linked to the age of my actors and actresses as they represent what is used in lessons quite regularly for taking notes and leaving pointers, they are a metaphor for relationships as they are easy to throw away, just like (paper) post it notes.

The company that I think would publish my short film would be Dreamworks or Warner. These two companies are extremely successful and between them have published thousands of films. I would use these companies as I think they have a similar target audience. The two companies that I have chosen are both American a competing British company I would also use is the BBC short films company. Although they are only a small company, they have a lot of shows in the UK at peak TV times.

Design Process

Magazine and Poster
The mock up designs which I have created are all original but incorporate the original conventions of an Empire magazine. I wanted to ensure that my magazine and poster linked with my film and also linked back to Empire. Overall I am happy with what I have designed and came up with. They are original pieces and work well with my short film.
Mock one
This is my first magazine mock up. I wanted to have a white background and just have a simple format. The reason why I didn't want to add a background was purely because I do not yet have a central image to add to any mock magazine, so I wanted to be able to create a cover with a great layout add a picture and work around it. For this mock I did all the magazine work in Adobe InDesign, I edited my picture in photoshop and also in InDesign. I got all my fonts off the preset fonts on InDesgin. The Masthead in this picture is one I had print screened off an original EMPIRE magazine, I simply straightened up the edges on Adobe Photoshop and then sharpened the black. For this particular cover I tried to vary my fonts more than usual. I noticed on every other EMPIRE magazine there was around 8 different fonts just used on the cover. So I tried to incorporate that into my own work. My favourite part of this magazine is where I am introducing the 'Ultimate Romantic 2012 movie' I think the variety of fonts work great and also introduces the movie well. I think my tag line above the masthead doesn't work well that was the only thing I didn't get off InDesign, I got it off www.dafont.com a regular site for magazine making fonts. I think it looks quite tacky. However, it is something that EMPIRE usually have so I thought I would use something like that, it doesn't look the same as an EMPIRE cover and that is what I wanted to achieve.

 Mock Two
This is my second magazine mock up. I prefer this one to my first as I think it has a lot more detail and the colour scheme works better as it flows well. Again I tried to use a lot of fonts, but not go over the top. The majority of the numbers on this cover are different from the text they are next to, but you can't really see that, but the numbers are bolder. I also added a lot of effects (fx) on InDesign such as Drop Shadows and Inner Glows. I also added a flash in the top right corner, I like this as it bursts with colour and makes the magazine look lighter. The tag line works better on this magazine than the first, I ensured that I stuck to the fonts on InDesign. I do like the fonts on www.dafont.com but I don't think they always fit within the page as nicely as preset texts do. They tend to go quite pixilated. Again, you can see that I have not used a background, I had originally created a faded grey background, but it didn't look great with the colour scheme and I do prefer it as it is now. I am very happy with this mock up, I think it is the strongest out of the three, purely for the colour scheme and use of effects.
Mock Three
This is my third magazine mock up. My favourite bit about this mock up is the bottom left corner, I really like the plus sign and also the black edges, I think it looks as if some paper has been thrown on top of the cover and is slightly random. However, I think it looks good and the effects work well with the 'review.' Along the bottom of the page I have added some famous actors/actresses names and used dashes (////) when separating the names, this is something that EMPIRE regularly does and it creates a good effect as it is not too wordy and makes it look neat and tidy. Again, for this mock I used more effects, which I think allows the cover to look more real to life and I really like the overall look. The leading article for this magazine is very clear and you can also see that I have added the main actors on the page. I wanted to make this cover all about the main stars. For the central image I would use a picture of them both, smiling towards each other. I think this would work well as there aren't very many featured articles and they are the main story.

My Production Title. I am extremely happy with how this has turned out, I was reading through a script on line and noticed the name Janet Audette, I liked her last name and decided to make it my production logo. The black 'blob' behind the text is a paint brush on photoshop which I just enlarged and added effects so that sections faded.
This is the brush which I used to create the 'blob' on Audette productions. I was simply drawing things which I thought would look good as the background behind the text and clicked on the page accidentally. The result in my opinion was great. I think because it is so simple, it works wonderfully for my production logo.
My Finished Magazine cover. I like the final piece as I wanted to make it similar to the original Empire covers, with a twist. So I ensured that I used lots of effects (fx) with a variety of colours. I decided to go with the original conventions of an Empire magazine, things such as a big, bold Empire title, using large copy. Other things such as the date in the M of the title, lots of different and unusual fonts. I wanted to incorporate lots of films that are out at the moment. Titles that will get noticed and recognised. The cover is quite wordy, but it works as it catches your eye. I opted for a white background purely because the photo is dark and the text colours are bright. I wanted to ensure that it stood out in a stack of covers, I didn't want it to blend in. I am extremely happy with my cover, I think it looks professional yet still within the Empire covers and conventions.

These are all the effects (fx) which I used to help me create the cover, poster and production title. They all do different things.  My favourite effect (fx) would have to be the drop shadow as it is a simple effect but adds depth to a picture or text. It highlights and allows other pieces to stand out. For example on my cover (top left) where 'EXCLUSIVE' is written there is a dark shadow which is a drop shadow.  I wanted 'EXCLUSIVE' to be highlighted so that it stands out.  It tells the reader that they wont be able to read about the article in any other magazine as it is an 'EXCLUSIVE' piece. I used a number of different tools to create my magazine, poster and production title, but the effects on fx helped me the most.

This is where I took all my photographs. I wanted to ensure that I would have a perfectly white background and also a good quality photograph, I took my photographs with a Canon Digital EOS 450 D and edited them in photoshop.

This is the original photograph which I took of Rebecca. As you can see the floor is extremely dark and that's due to the lighting I used. I used a snoot which only focused on the face and shoulders. I was initially only going to use this photograph for my poster which is head and shoulders. When I flicked through the other photographs I favoured this one over all of them. So I opened it in photoshop, brightened and enhanced it which made the floor white and also the rest of the photograph a lot lighter.

This is an edited photograph which I took of Curtis.  I brightened and enhanced it, then cropped it down. I used this photograph on my poster, then cropped it again once I had it laid out properly. I really like this photo, Curtis looks genuinely happy and appears not to be posing.  It looks professional as you can see that one side of his face is lighter than the other  suggesting a snoot was used enabling it too look more professional.
These two photographs are where my poster started. I took several photographs of a simple layout of Post it notes on a white background. As you can see on this photograph, my camera isn't great and the photograph is quite pixelated and dark.  I enhanced and brightened it in Photoshop, this made the background disappear and also enhanced the colours on the post it notes. The layout is very simple and I wanted it to be simple yet eye catching, which is where the colours come in as they catch your eye.

This Post it layout is slightly more abstract. When I did a mock up of the previous picture, it looked quite simple and didn't look like post it notes, which is why I had a second go as I wanted to see what I could do with a more abstract piece of work. As you can see some corners are folded which allows the post it notes to look more like post it notes. The don't just look like coloured pieces of paper.
To create the background for my poster I had to take the photograph of the post it notes, edit them in photoshop by brightening the picture as the colours are quite dull.  You can see on the picture above that they are a lot brighter than the previous picture. I  used the lasso tool to go around the edges of the post it notes to make the edges sharp and also to create a perfectly white background. I did this on both sets of post it notes and as you can see in the picture above the colours are all very bright and vibrant, the background is also perfectly white, which is something you would expect on a professional movie poster.

This was my second attempt at a movie poster and I am pleased with the outcome. After creating and designing my second poster, I realised that I preferred the original one. It is simple, but effective to the eye. This poster is good but the photographs look ammature by comparison. They are over cropped and don't seem to be following any layout. However, I like the fact there are critical comments from Empire on the cover as I think this leads back to my magazine and shows you that it obviously is a good movie if Empire has added a comment. However, I didn't like the overall layout, the photographs of Rebecca and Curtis wouldn't fit in the post it notes as they were all in quite obscure angles. Rebecca's head in the bottom left green post it doesn't fit, but at the same time it looks good as you can't see all of the post it notes, so why should you be able to see all of their heads? I do like this poster but I  preferred my original one.

My finished poster. I am extremely happy with my film poster. I like the colours and the fact that the poster links to the title of my short film 'Post It'. My film is about these two characters and how they meet through notes and how it leads to love. You can see this on the poster and the fact that they are looking at each other and their eyes meet. This allows you to see their connection. I had a problem with my two main actors, I couldn't get them together at the same time to take a photograph, so I had to take the photographs separately and put them together on photoshop, which is a challenge itself. Overall I am extremely happy with my poster, I think it links back to the film well. The pictures and copy all link together well.  I prefer this one to my previous poster, it hasn't got as much on it, but it looks more like a film poster and the catch line "sometimes its the little things that lead to love.." is very catchy and intriguing.  The viewers would want to know how it leads to love. Overall I think my poster looks professional and is very eye catching.

Short Film

When I started my Preliminary task I worked on Adobe Premiere Elements and then when it came down to doing my film I tried Serif MoviePlus X5 as the system for Adobe Premiere Elements wasn't working properly on the computers.  I preferred Serif as you could do a lot more with the sound and lighting, it allowed you to control almost everything  and also worked a lot quicker and more efficiently. The logo's for the tools were easier to find and also a lot more accurate.

Music for my Short Film
The score that I used for my short film could not be copyrighted. I was able to search on a variety of different websites to find sound for my short film, 'post it'. Some of the websites that I used to find my music were www.audiojungle.net and www.freesound.org. I downloaded several songs, but I decided to use only one particular song, which was called 'Hard Knocks'. I used the song throughout my film as in my opinion the score of the song projected well for my scenes. I got this sound from www.audiojungle.net

Animation
On my short film I wanted to add a simple, yet nice looking title sequence and credit sequence. I created a post it note on photoshop, not a photograph. I then wrote 'Post It' across the front and then began to rub sections out so that it would look as if someone was writing it. I then imported all the pictures into Serif MoviePlus X5 and shortened sections down so that each post it note was only on the screen for less than a second.

These are just a few pictures of my credit sequence.  The majority of them have the name 'Jessica Stones' on them. I didn't want to do any rubbing out or intricate animations at the end of the film as I knew there wasn't enough time to do so. I decided that I wanted a byline to slide across onto the next byline following one another, as this would look different to the title sequence. This way I would be showing two different animation techniques.

Short film script
As I started to write my script, I realised I didn't know how to write a professional film script. I decided to do some research before I got further into it and realised I had done it wrong.  I simply googled how to write a script and came across some good examples, this is a link to one of the ones that helped me. http://www.scifiscripts.com/scripts/t23d.txt It's not of the same genre, but I used the same layout and just added little things to make it look more professional. This is a short section of my script and a look into how I directed my actors.

Actors and Actresses.
Selecting who I wanted to work with was easy. Two of my closest friends do drama and they happened to be in a relationship at the time. I decided to ask them to be my two main stars. Rebecca Lei and Curtis Regan were cast for my featured actors. I then asked around for a few extras who can be in their lessons whilst they were swapping notes. I got four people who were willing to be filmed and they are Jessica Jones, Steven Reine and Paul Bently. Jessica was the teacher and the two extras were Steven and Paul. I asked them to bring a number of items of clothing for the filming as we did it all in one day, an inset day in November. I had a few problems with my extras as they had never before done any work behind a camera and they were  repeatedly laughing and looking directly in the camera.

Filming
When I started filming on an inset day, I knew that I had all day to sort my film out, get a number of different shots and have the opportunity to use all of the school in silence. When going through the film I had around 30 minutes of filming which had to be cut as the task was to create a short film . I wanted to ensure that I had enough shots. The beginning scene of my film is quite wobbly and so are a lot of the other walking scenes, this was because I had no experience, or use of a rolling tripod. I used a tripod for all the panning and still - non moving shots. The tripod was connected to the camera so that when I did a close up on some of the actors I could keep a still and strong shot.  This became difficult when walking as I could not keep the camera still as I had to walk backwards quickly and had nothing to keep me or the camera steady.
In some scenes, for example the corridor scenes, where we are shadowing some of the actors as they leave or enter the classroom, I sat on a desk chair which had casters (wheels) with my camera connected to the tripod.  The tripod, which was resting on my legs, was then pushed down the corridor with me. I thought this was something I could do to try to keep the camera steady.  When it came down to putting it onto the computer and editing programme, it looked a lot wobblier than the shots I had took previously, without the desk chair. Overall I am extremely happy with my film. I think that the animations and also the faded effects I have used work extremely well, they link the film together and allow you to follow the plot easily.

Research

Research
The history of film is the historical development of the medium known variously as cinema, motion pictures, film, or the movies. The history of film spans over 100 years, back from the 19th century up to present day. Motion pictures developed gradually from a carnival novelty to one of the most important tools of communication, entertainment and mass media in the 20th century and into the 21st century. Motion picture films have substantially affected the arts, technology, and politics.
Technique of the camera. The first film cameras were fastened directly to the head of their tripod or other support, with only the crudest kind of levelling devices provided, in the manner of the still-camera tripod heads of the period. The earliest film cameras were thus effectively fixed during the shot, and hence the first camera movements were the result of mounting a camera on a moving vehicle. The first known of these was a film shot by a Lumière cameraman from the back platform of a train leaving Jerusalem in 1896, and by 1898 there were a number of films shot from moving trains. This research has helped me develop my own ideas and my ways of filming with the equpitment at hand.

The silent era
The silent era was invented around the early stages of the 1900's. The films were completely silent.  However, they were sometimes accompanied by live musicians and sometimes sound effects and even commentary spoken by the showman or projectionist. I researched the Silent Era as quite a lot of my film is silent other than the music. I wanted to have the same conventions as a silent movie as a lot of the movements in my film are over the top and the body language is always very strong, which is simlar to the silent movies I have viewed.

Short Film Research
As I intended on creating a short romantic film I wanted to research typical romantic films. I found some short films, such as 'Love Sick' and 'Signs'. I wanted to ensure that I was using the right codes and conventions and also that I had picked the right genre for me, I wanted to know that I would be able to do something similar. I originally wanted to do something scary, like a short horror film, but after watching some of the attempts, it looked extremely hard to do. I knew that romance would be a challenge but I didn't want it to end up looking ridiculous like some of the horror movies did.
Some longer films I watch inspired me, such as 500 days of summer. I am not a big fan of the film, but the music and animation sequences really intrigued me and captured my attention.  I thought the films had great storylines although predictable, they ultimately had a happy ending. ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsD0NpFSADM 500 days of summer trailer - 1.02) As you can see on the trailer, there are clips of numbers of days when Tom and Summer met or had relationship problems. I really like the music used on this trailer and throughout the film. What really grabbed my attention though was the animations, they are simple yet effective.
Signs
This is one of the first short films I looked at. As soon as I watched it all the way through I had to watch it again and again as I thought it was so simple but great. There is no speech only a soft song playing in the background and the diagetic sound from his movement. The only bit of dialogue is from his boss who is making a joke and also his mother and father who ring him to wish him well. I liked the fact that throughout the film the man is so lonely and is always hoping to find love in the simplest ways. He smiles and looks at everyone around him but nothing seems to happen for him.
The genre for this film would be romance and this is why I particularly like this film as it uses the same conventions as what I would like to create for my short film. I liked the fact that within 4 minutes of the film the man had been shot down by 3 different women and then when he went back to his office he noticed a woman in the next building through the window. He is wearing a white shirt which shows his innocence with a burgundy/dark red tie. I think the red is there to show his lust for love. Red connotes hearts and love which is what he is looking for.
I wasn't too keen on the title sequence for this film, the text used was very small. I liked however the fact that his alarm was going off at the beginning of the film and the alarm sound started on the title sequence, that added to it, but the text did need to be bigger as it was extremely small and hard to read.
Throughout the film there is a mixture of shots. It varies from extreme long shots to close ups. Which is allowing you to look into the mans life and see things in his perspective. I really liked the different songs played throughout the film, they added to his eagerness. Each day when he heard his alarm he got up faster and faster which grabs your attention even more as you want to know whats going to happen. The end credits are also very simple, but they work. They just tell you the simple details and aren't too fast which allows you to read them. The lighting throughout the film is very bright and is used to create a happy atmosphere when he is near a girl and slightly dull when he is at home on his own.  In contrast the music is there to set the scene, the music plays as a different mood begins. The lack of dialogue in this film works as it allows you to concentrate on their facial expressions.
The Black Hole
The non-diegeitc sound starts at the very beginning, you can here the printer printing. The opening title, comes out of a black hole, which is clever and works well as that is the title of the film (the black hole). It is a quick opening sequence and jumps straight into the film. The man is blurred out as the camera pans towards him and goes from a long shot to a medium close up of his face and shoulders. You can hear the man sigh and clearly see, even though the lighting is quite dark, that the man himself is very tired, exhausted and just generally looks unhappy. When he prints out the 'black hole' he thinks nothing of it and puts it down after a close up of his face. When the man figures out what he can do with the piece of paper, the 'black hole'  he looks towards a vending machine and takes a snickers, which originally made me think of a snickers advert, I thought it was trying to fit it in and then shock you at the end. He then looks towards a 'keep out' door this gives you a sense of his job title, he is clearly not allowed in that room and as he has the tools to do so, he is using them and taking advantage of them. When he enters the room at 1.44 the lights flash and you can see how eager and happy he is to be in that room. The lights flashing show a sense of doom yet at the same time positivity as he has entered the room without any right to.  This would keep the audience in suspence at the posibility of him getting caught. The ending is completely unexpected as he enters the safe and gets stuck as the 'black hole' drops off the side of the safe. Overall I really enjoyed this short film, it gave me a lot of insight on different camera angles. It has also shown me how to stick specifically to your codes and conventions and this is through using the right lighting and also the right actors/actresses. This film has no dialogue at all only uses diagetic sound.  Even without any dialogue it is so cleverly filmed and the expressions of the actor manage to keep you entertained, which makes you want to keep watching to see what happens.
Teeth
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87AkewNcgwU
This particular film is very short, only 2 minutes and 8 seconds. The film may be short but it uses a lot of techniques. Good shots, seeing the picture above shows you one of my favourites. A long shot of the two men in the boat, the sun shining on the lake and there fishing rods in the water. I really like the opening  shot, a long shot of the mountains and the lake in the middle, the music is also very enticing. It doesn't give you any idea of what is about to happen but intrigues you and makes you want to watch more. The opening credits are also extremely simple, Teeth in italics, again gives you no idea as to what is about to happen, yet makes you want to watch on. I like that there aren't many colours only slight twinges of colour but the majority of the film is set in black and white. When the man knocks his teeth into the water you can tell that that is the end of the scene and the next one picks up when the man who still has his teeth is facing away yet still laughing.  It has clearly amused him and he laughs for a long period of time which slowly turns into giggling as scene changes.  This film is definitely following the codes on conventions of a comedy. The simple things like close ups of somebody laughing and also the large props i.e the boat. The music also follows the conventions of a comedy as it changes when an idea pops into the mans head, also when he begins to put the teeth in the fish's mouth. The music changes showing that the atmosphere is going to change. The only thing that lets this film down is that there are no end credits. It would have been nice to know if it was all one person who shot and edited this film or if it was a groups job. However, on the other side it is a quick ending and allows you to linger on at what the two men have just done, which is also quite clever.

Preliminary Task

For my preliminary task I had to film an indoor scene using conversation, non-diegetic sound, different shots and good lighting. I also had to edit the film adding effects such as fading in and fading out and also non-diegetic sound to the scene. When shooting I used a tripod to make sure that the shots were steady and accurate. I found that this helped when filming the characters walking as I was able to stay at the same height and also when I switched from Jamie to Shane the shots were at the same height.
I had to shoot a number of different things:
1. Person (Jamie) walking towards the camera
2. Jamie walking away from the camera
3. Jamie holding and opening the door handle
4. Close up of Jamie's hand opening the door
5. Long shot of Jamie opening the door and entering the room
6. Jamie crossing through the room and sitting at a table with another person (Shane)
7. Over the shoulder shot of Jamie talking to Shane
8. Over the shoulder shot of Shane talking to Jamie
9. Person standing up and walking away

The short film was shot in one of the sixth form rooms and it was shot using a Digital Video Camcorder, Canon MD101 we used a TP320 tripod which enabled us to have a smooth and professional shot. We measured the length from the door to where Jamie was standing.  We made him stand still whilst we moved from in front of him, to behind him, which seemed to work well as he was in exactly the same position. When shooting the conversation the room wasn't bright enough to see Shane so we decided to edit that when it came to putting it onto the computers. We mainly panned around the room using the tripod when Jamie was walking into the room. I tried to avoid using the zoom in and out tools as it sometimes makes the shot look fake and has a tendency to blur if it is too close, so when we shot number 4 (Close up of Jamie's hand opening the door) we shot a medium close up, which worked just as well, and enabled us to keep the short film smooth, without fault. We shot each shot twice to make sure we had exactly what we wanted.

We downloaded the film by connecting the camera to the computer using a USB, we had to ensure that the recording was re-wound to the beginning of the short film so that it would open the scenes fully. We opened the short film in Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0. We viewed the film on the computer to ensure that it was all in working order and ran through professionally, if not we had to edit it and re-shoot the scenes. When it was fully loaded in APE we selected 'New Project' we had to save it into a file and the 'z drive' was chosen and the short film was given an appropriate name. When the program is fully loaded and saved you must click on the picture of the camcorder and select ‘capture’. This will ensure that the film is loaded and ready to begin the editing process. To edit your film, there are many different options. There is the ‘edit’ drop down menu in the top left corner, which has a variety of different options to choose from. There is a square with two shades in it, which if selected, will come up with many options of editing. This is what I used to edit the film.

The score that we were able to use for our short film could not be copyrighted. We were able to search on a variety of different websites to find sound for the short film. Some of the websites that we search where www.audiojungle.net and www.freesound.org. However the score that we initially used for the short movie was found on the school drive in resources, once it was deemed suitable we began editing the film. The sound was one of the easiest things to edit I thought. You had to select the media file you wanted to insert into the short film and drag and drop it into the sound section just below the screen, I then began to fade in and fade out the sound when necessary ( at the beginning of speech or at the end of speech or when fading out at the end of scenes)
The overall project has taught me how to use APE. I have never previously edited a film or clip and it has been a valid and interesting experience. I have filmed short clips before, but i have never before edited my own recording. I have only ever filmed at small family occasions such as birthday's and Christmas's and also just short scenes on my mobile phone, I have never filmed anything as in depth as what I have done for this project. I had never previously thought about what the lighting had to look like when shooting something like singing happy birthday, but I will definitely take into consideration what the light and the background is next time. I learnt a great deal amount the editing and filming as it was a hands on job it wasn’t something you could just leave and let it work itself out because sometimes the clips jump and you need to add certain transitions and edit brightness and contrast which is an interesting this to do. Overall I think that this task has added to my personal experience greatly, I will definitely take more consideration as to what everything looks like and it has improved my knowledge of the subject massively.
The Programme we used to edit the short film - Adobe Premiere Elements. I had never previously used this programme. I have done some small bits of filming but I have never edited a film in such depth as to what I did here. I gradually taught myself some simple things which I needed to use when editing my film.
Some sections of the editing process were harder than others. For example when adding the non-diegetic score for the short film we had to ensure that the background 'fuzz' was quiet enough for the music to be played. We used one piece of film so that it would add a happy tone to the short film.
I then selected new project, this enabled me to have a blank sheet and to put my recording onto it. It would have no previous editing, it would be all new and no edits.
The 'Image Control' section allows you to edit the Brightness, Contrast, Hue and Saturation. I dabbled with the Brightness slightly as some shots were too dark.
The 'Opacity' section allows you to edit the Opacity of the clip. The different fades, 'fade in and 'fade out.' I used a few different depths of fades as I wanted some  shots to be fast and others to be reasonably slow.

This is the 'grabbing' section on Adobe Premiere Elements. This allows you to cut sections and to add the fade ins/fade outs at your own desire. The yellow lines on top of the blue section are the faded sections and also the sound. It allows you to adjust the volume.

These print screens are from different scenes in my short film. There are some print screens which are particularly dark, these have been edited in Adobe Premiere elements to make them lighter as you could not see much detail. I like this short film as it has a number of different camera angles, not all in the same shot there is a variety of long and medium shots.
